Softball Team Edges Maryville For Third Straight Doubleheader Sweep

Piedmont Extends Winning Streak To Seven Games

Michelle Crandall posted five hits in the Lady Lions' two wins against Maryville College this afternoon in Maryville, TN.

The Piedmont College softball team took a pair of games from Great South Athletic Conference host Maryville College by the scores of 8-7 in ten innings and 2-1 this afternoon in Maryville, TN. The victory marks the seventh consecutive win for the team as well as the third straight GSAC doubleheader sweep.

PC moves to 22-9 overall and an impressive 11-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions have clinched at least a share of the regular season championship and are one win away from clinching the title outright. The team will take on conference member Agnes Scott College in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 19th beginning at 2:00.

In the first game that featured seven lead changes the Lady Lions scored two in the first inning to take the early advantage. Maryville then held PC scoreless until the top of the sixth when the squad pushed across two runs knotting the score at 4-4.

With the score tied 6-6 in the tenth inning PC scored two runs to take an 8-6 lead. The Scots were not finished and rallied for one run in the home half but could get no closer and dropped the one-run affair. LINDSAY DREVLOW was impressive throwing all ten innings to pick up the well-earned victory.

In the finale Piedmont found the eventual game winning two runs in the top of the fourth inning. In a pitchers duel freshman B.J. COFER went the distance for her 12th victory of the season.MICHELLE CRANDALL and HANNAH MCKAY led the offense with two hits apiece.
