Behind an impressive start from
JOHN VOHLKEN the Piedmont College baseball team defeated Great South Athletic Conference host Maryville College by the score of 3-1 this afternoon in Maryville, TN. The senior southpaw threw six full innings allowing one earned run while on only four hits to pick up his third victory of the season.
After the Lions went scoreless in the top of the first the Scots took the first lead of the game with a two out RBI-single. The lead would hold until the fifth inning when PC struck back with two runs to take the final lead of the contest.
After an
EVAN NISSLEY double, his fourth extra base hit of the weekend,
COLE SPEDALE singled putting runners on first and second with no outs. After a wild pitch
ANDREW MIGETZ notched a double to give the Lions the 2-1 advantage.
After
TOM DIMITROFF came on in the eighth and stranded the tying run at second base Piedmont tacked on an insurance run in the ninth inning as Migetz struck with a sacrifice fly giving the Lions the 3-1 lead. Dimitroff then posted a scoreless bottom half for his 12th save of the season.
On the day Migetz went a perfect 3-3 with three RBI's while Spedale went 3-5 with the game-winning run. Nissley,

COREY LINDSEY also posted single hits. The Lions played flawless defense while the pitching staff allowed only five hits.
The victory moves Piedmont to 27-8 overall and 5-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lions will travel to LaGrange College on Friday, April 18th in the beginning of a three game series starting at 7:00.
