In the second Great South Athletic Conference doubleheader of the season the Piedmont College softball team split a doubleheader with visiting LaGrange College this evening at Walker Field. The Panthers edged the Lady Lions 2-1 in the first game, but PC rebounded to take the finale 3-0.
The split moves Piedmont to 16-9 overall and 3-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions will hit the road for a doubleheader against conference host Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL on Saturday, April 12th beginning at 1:00 CST.
In the first game PC scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third as LINDSAY DREVLOW plated NIKKI EASTMAN with a two out RBI-single. The lead was short lived as the Panthers answered with a pair of runs in the fourth on a two-run homer to leftcenter.
Both teams remained scoreless for the remainder of the game giving LaGrange the closely contested 2-1 victory. Drevlow took the hard luck loss going the distance allowing only two earned runs while scattering six hits and striking out three. Drevlow also paced the offense going 2-3 with the teams only RBI.
In the doubleheader finale the Lady Lions struck quickly with a single run in the first plating MEGAN DAY who singled and stole second to start the inning. The lead remained 1-0 until the bottom of the third when Maxey struck again with a two-RBI single to rightfield.
The three runs were all freshman B.J. COFER needed as the newcomer tossed a complete game allowing zero runs while striking out four. Maxey went 3-3 with three RBI's while Day went 2-3 with a run and a stolen base. CHRISTY KING also chipped in with a 1-3 performance and six assists on the day at shortstop.
