For the fourth consecutive time the Piedmont College baseball team came out on top as the Lions downed host Hampden-Sydney College 7-4 this afternoon in Hampden-Sydney, VA. The Lions committed zero errors and did not allow a run over the last three innings to pull away for the non-conference victory.
EVAN NISSLEY hit the first pitch of the game up the middle for a single and was followed by a
TRAVIS HUNT double on the first pitch putting runners on second and third.
ANDREW MIGETZ then posted a two-RBI single up the box to give PC the lead for good.
The Lions tacked on two more runs in the third, the first coming on a throwing error and the second coming on an
ANDY HOUSE RBI-groundout plating Migetz from third. PC took a 5-0 lead after a leadoff double from
JUSTIN OATES and Hunt posted an RBI-groundout.
The Tigers responded in the fifth plating three runs on two hits making the score 5-3. HSC would get within one in the sixth with a single run on two hits and a sacrifice fly. The Lions would added single insurance runs in the seventh and eighth as
MATT DEVITO posted a two-out solo homerun and a Nissley RBI-double plating
COREY LINDSEY from second base.
SPENCER SHELTON came on in the sixth and threw two and a third innings of scoreless baseball retiring all seven hitters in order with four strikeouts.
TOM DIMITROFF came on in the ninth for his fourth save on the year while striking out the side.
The Lions outhit their opponents 12-9 with four doubles and a homerun while committing zero errors. Piedmont swiped a pair of bags and capitilized on two unearned runs on four errors from the hometeam.
Piedmont now stands at at 12-3 overall and will return to action again on Saturday, March 8th as they host Shenandoah University at Loudermilk Field beginning at 6:00.
