After Saturday's scheduled game was postponed due to inclimate weather the PIedmont College baseball team notched a doubleheader split with visiting Great South Athletic Conference foe Huntingdon College this afternoon at Loudermilk Field. The Lions dropped game one 9-6 but rebounded to win the series finale 4-1 and take two of the three games.
The split moves Piedmont to 22-7 overall and 2-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lions will return to action again on Friday, April 4th as they host #14 ranked Emory University at Loudermilk Field beginning at 7:00.
In game one the Hawks jumped out in the second inning with a single run. PC answered in the home half capitilizing on an error while
COLE SPEDALE recorded an RBI-groundout. Huntingdon posted a pair of runs on three hits in the fourth inning setting up a wild sixth inning.
The Hawks posted five runs on three hits to take a commanding 8-1 advantage. The Lions quickly answered matching the five runs in the home half on two hits and a pair of Huntingdon miscues making the score 8-6. HC would post an insurance run in the eighth for the final scoring of the game.
In the series finale the visitors posted a single run in the third inning on back to back hits. PC answered in the bottom half with a run on two hits. The Lions then posted a single run in the fifth as Spedale drove in
ZAC STEIN who led the inning off with a double.
Piedmont added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth as
ANDY HOUSE led off with a double and came around to score with the RBI going to
TRAVIS HUNT.
JUSTIN VORHERR then singled and after a pair of errors came around to score.
ANDY GRAF picked up the victory on the mound going six strong innings allowing one run while striking out five hitters.
TOM DIMITROFF threw three innings of scoreless relief punching out four en route to his ninth save of the season.
EVAN NISSLEY went 3-9 with a pair of extra base hits and as many RBI's while
JOHN DUKE went 3-7 with a single run scored. After going 1-4 in the first game,
COLE SPEDALE went 0-3 with an RBI in the nightcap snapping a season and team high 17-game hitting streak.
