DePauw Snaps PC's Three-Game Winning Streak With 7-5 Victory

Tigers Rally With Four Runs In The Ninth For Comeback Victory

Cole Spedale extended his season long hitting streak to 14 games going 2-3 with a pair of runs scored tonight in the Lions' home loss to DePauw.
In a matchup of ranked teams the Piedmont College baseball team fell to visiting non-conference foe DePauw University by the score of 7-5. In a game that featured four lead changes and a pair of ties the Tigers came through in the top of the ninth with four runs to cap the comeback victory.

DePauw struck first with a single run in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 advantage. The Lions got within one in the bottom of the second as SPENCER SHELTON came around on a COLE SPEDALE sacrifice fly. PC knotted the game at 2-2 an inning later as COREY LINDSEY singled and stole second and later came around on a JOHN DUKE RBI-single.

The Tigers took a 3-2 advantage in the fourth but the lead was short lived as PC struck with a pair of runs in the home half as Lindsey and Duke notched RBI's scoring JARED MOON and COLE SPEDALE. The Lions added a single run in the sixth as Spedale, JUSTIN OATES and Lindsey posted consecutive singles making the score 5-3.

The lead held until the ninth when the Tigers plated the first run on an errant throw. Following a groundout and an intentional walk DePauw came through with a bases clearing two-out double to take a 7-5 advantage. The Lions posted a pair of hits in the ninth but could not overcome the deficit and dropped the two-run decision.

ANDY GRAF picked up the tough luck no decision going six innings allowing two earned runs while striking out seven hitters. Spedale extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a 2-3 performance with an RBI and two runs scored.

The loss moves Piedmont to 20-5 overall. The Lions will return to action again tomorrow, March 26th as they host local rival Oglethorpe University at Loudermilk Field beginning at 7:00.
