The Piedmont College baseball team posted a doubleheader split this afternoon at Loudermilk Field with visiting non-conference Bridgewater College dropping the first game 4-1 but rebounding to take the series finale 9-1. The Eagles snapped the Lions' season long nine-game winning streak holding the home team to a mere five hits in the opener but PC exploded for 17 hits in the second game to cruise to the eight-run victory.
Piedmont took an early lead in game one in the bottom of the first as EVAN NISSLEY led off with a single and came around to score on an ANDREW MIGETZ RBI-single. BC posted unanswered single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth to seal the victory. The Eagles outhit the Lions 12-5 and only allowed eight hitters to reach base.
ANDY GRAF took the hard luck loss going the distance allowing three earned runs while striking out four. The five hits and one run Piedmont could muster marked the lowest output of the season.
In the second game the Lions started the scoring in the second inning with two outs as JUSTIN VORHERR notched a double and COLE SPEDALE and JUSTIN OATES followed with RBI-singles. PC tacked on a single run in the third and then exploded in the fourth inning with four runs. The Lions posted three consecutive hits before a sacrifice fly and then tacked on three more RBI-hits in a row.
Piedmont tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the fifth inning as Vorherr delivered a two-run homer to right center. JOHN VOHLKEN went seven strong innings allowing one unearned run on four hits while striking out a pair. JOSH MCEACHIN came on to secure the win going two innings retiring the six outs in order.
PC moves to 18-4 overall and will return to action again on Thursday, March 20th against visiting Centre College at Loudermilk Field beginning at 7:00.
