The Piedmont College softball team opened the Millsaps College Invitational with a pair of victories this afternoon in Jackson, MS over Trinity (TX) University 11-10 and fellow SCAC member and south region foe Rhodes College 6-2. The Lady Lions overcame Trinity in dramatic fashion with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning and allowed only one earned run in the victory over Rhodes.
The victory over Rhodes was the 200th career win for head coach
Terry Martin. Martin, who is in his tenth year at the helm of the PC softball program, now stands at 200-164-1 in his illustrious career including a pair of Great South Athletic Conference championships and a trip to the 2006 NCAA Division-III national tournament.
PC moves to 7-3 overall on the season. The women will return to action with a doubleheader tomorrow, March 14th with a rematch game against Rhodes at 12:00 CST followed by a contest against University of Texas-Dallas at 6:00 CST.
In the first game of the day PC found itself knotted at 10-10 entering the seventh inning. The Lady Lions found the game-winning run as

LAURA PUCKETT from third base and sealing the walk-off victory.
In the second game Piedmont took command in the sixth inning, exploding for four runs to take a 6-1 advantage. Although the Lynx got a single run in the seventh, the lead was too much and the Lady Lions walked away with their second victory of the day.
MEGAN DAY led the offensive surge with a team high three hits en route to the sound win.
B.J. COFER picked up a pair of victories on the mound coming out of the bullpen in game one and going the distance in the finale. Cofer moves to a perfect 5-0 on the young season.
