For the seventh time in as many games the Piedmont College baseball team defeated its opponent, this evening overcoming Edgewood College at Loudermilk Field by the score of 5-2. The Lions capitilized on four runs in the third inning and held on over the course of the final six innings for their 15th win of the season.
After a scoreless first inning the Lions jumped ahead 1-0 as
COREY LINDSEY posted a bases loaded one-out walk scoring
JUSTIN VORHERR from third. PC held the Eagles scoreless in the top of the third setting up the eventual game-winning runs in the home half.
ANDREW MIGETZ led the inning off with a line-drive single to centerfield and moved to second on a balk.
ANDY HOUSE followed with a walk and both runners advanced on the second balk of the inning. With one out
JUSTIN VORHERR and
COLE SPEDALE notched RBI-singles back to back. After a Spedale stolen base
JUSTIN OATES drove in a pair of runs to cap the scoring.
Edgewood scored a single unearned run in the sixth and an earned run in the eighth, but could get no closer.
ANDY GRAF went five innings allowing only two hits and zero runs while striking out four hitters.
B.J. HAMPTON allowed no earned runs over an inning and two thirds while
TOM DIMITROFF came on for his sixth save of the year recording the last seven outs while striking out three.
Vorherr, Spedale and Migetz went 2-4 respectively while Oates went 1-3 with a pair of RBI's and a walk. The senior shortstop also broke a 19-game consecutive errorless streak with his first error of the season.
The victory moves Piedmont to 15-3 overall and extends the season long winning streak to seven games. The Lions will return to Loudermilk Field to take on Virginia Wesleyan College on Sunday, March 16th with start time set for 7:00.
