Baseball Team Overcomes #10 Ranked Marietta College 6-1

Spencer Shelton Picks Up The Win On The Mound In Dominant Fashion

Spencer Shelton posted his second win in his last two decisions going seven and two-thirds innings while striking out eight against #10 Marietta College.

The Piedmont College baseball team recorded its ninth victory of the season this afternoon against visiting Marietta College, currently ranked #10 D3Baseball national poll, at Loudermilk Field by the score of 6-1. Behind a dominating performance by SPENCER SHELTON the Lions outhit their opponents 12-3 en route to the five-run victory.

PC scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning on a two-out RBI-single from ANDY HOUSE plating ANDREW MIGETZ who reached on a walk. Shelton retired the first eight hitters in a row and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh when Piedmont exploded for five runs on five hits. Freshman JOHN DUKE picked up his first collegiate hit to lead off the inning and moved to second on a JUSTIN OATES bunt single. Duke scored on the next play as COREY LINDSEY's sacrifice bunt was thrown away.

After an EVAN NISSLEY intentional walk loaded the bases TRAVIS HUNT delivered an RBI-single and Migetz connected on a sacrifice fly. MATT DEVITO capped the scoring with a two-out RBI-double plating House from first base.

Marietta's only run came in the top of the eighth as SPENCER SHELTON allowed a two-out RBI-single. TOM DIMITROFF was then inserted in the game on the mound and recorded the final four outs allowing zero hits while striking out two. Shelton went seven and two-thirds innings allowing only a single earned run while striking out eight including the side in the seventh.

Migetz extended his season-long hitting streak to 12 games with a triple in the sixth inning. Nissley, Hunt, House and Duke all posted two-hit games while House led the way with two RBI's. The Lions played flawless defense highlighted by a Nissley sliding catch in the gap saving a run in the fourth.
