PC Drops Final Regular Season Game At Maryville 98-70

Short-handed Lions Scrap Early But Run Out Of Gas Versus Nation's #21 Team

Branden Mayweather scored a career-high 18 points in the Lions' 98-70 loss at #21 Maryville College this afternoon.

In the final regular season game of the 2007-08 campaign the Piedmont College men's basketball team fell at #21 Maryville College this afternoon 98-70. The short-handed Lions were unable to overcame the Scots depth and fell to MC for the second time this season.

The loss drops the Lions to 13-12 overall and 2-4 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lions will take on LaGrange College in the GSAC Tournament next Friday, February 29th in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center with tip-off slated for 3:00.

PC came out of the gates strong hitting the first five points of the game as WESLEY PARKER hit a three-pointer and a jumper. The Lions led by as many eight at 15-7 with 13 minutes to go in the first half. The Scots answered and retook the lead for good with eight minutes remaining at 22-19. Maryville went into intermission with a 50-31 advantage.

In the second half the Lions were able to cut the lead to 14 with nine minutes remaining as BRANDEN MAYWEATHER hit a layup on a dish from JAKE GREEN. PC could get no closer and at the end of regulation the Scots held their largest lead of the game at 28 points.

Mayweather led four Lions in double figures with  a career-high 18 points including 4-6 from behind the arc. SAMUEL COPPAGE added 15 points including 5-6 from the charity stripe while MICHAEL RUBIO and WESLEY PARKER chipped in with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Piedmont played without the nation's leading scorer JAKE BALDWIN who currently sports a 28.0 ppg average.
