For the first time this season the Piedmont College baseball team dropped a one-run decision, this afternoon to Rhodes College in Memphis, TN by the score of 4-3. Despite outhitting the home team 7-6, the Lions stranded seven baserunners en route to the loss.
Rhodes plated the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the second inning before PC answered with two runs in the fourth.
ANDREW MIGETZ and
ANDY HOUSE led the inning off with back-to-back singles before Migetz scored on a wild pitch and House came across on a sacrifice fly from
JUSTIN VORHERR.
The Lynx answered with a pair of runs in the fifth to retake the lead for good and added an insurance run in the sixth. The Lions got within one in the seventh as
COREY LINDSEY notched a double and later scored on a two-out error. Piedmont ended the game with a pair of scoreless innings as the RC bullpen retired PC in order.
ANDY GRAF took the hard luck loss going six and two-thirds innings allowing only three earned runs while scattering five hits and striking out three.
JOSH MCEACHIN and
TOM DIMITROFF combined for one and a third innnings of scoreless relief. Offensively,
EVAN NISSLEY went 2-5 from the plate while Vorherr went 1-3 with an RBI.
PC moves to 6-2 overall and will return to the field again tomorrow, February 23rd as they travel to Millsaps College in Jackson, MS beginning at 1:00 CST.
