With six seniors being recognized prior to the top-off the Piedmont College women's basketball team clinched the Great South Athletic Conference regular season title with it's 77-58 victory this afternoon over visiting LaGrange College in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center. The Lady Lions will enter the upcoming GSAC Tournament as the #1 seed and will receive a first round bye.
PC, who never trailed in the game, scored the first 12 points of the game and jumped out to a 20-2 lead just seven minutes in. The Panthers responded to get within 10 at 37-27 with less than two minutes remaining but the Lady Lions answered with seven points to take a 44-27 lead into the half.
Piedmont extended it's lead to as many as 24 on two separate occasions while only allowing LaGrange to get within 16. When the final buzzer sounded the Lady Lions had sealed the regular season title with a final score of 77-58.
Senior YETTA BAILEY led the team's balanced scoring attack with a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. MANDY BEASLEY also reached double figures with10 points while 12 different teammates all recorded points.
The win moves PC to 20-3 overall and 10-0 in Great South Athletic Conference play. The women will return to the court on Wednesday, February 20th as they travel to conference host Wesleyan College with tip-off slated for 6:00.
