Lions Shutout Guilford College 9-0 For Third Victory Of The Season

Andy Graf Goes Six Innings Allowing Only Five Hits For The Win

Andy Graf threw six innings allowing zero earned runs in this afternoon's victory over Guilford College.

The Piedmont College baseball team completed the two-game sweep of visiting Guilford College this afternoon by the score of 9-0 at Loudermilk Field. The Lions used three pitchers who combined for the shutout led by starter ANDY GRAF who went six innings scattering five hits while inducing a pair of inning-ending double plays.

For the third game in a row the Lions scored in the first inning sparked by an ANDREW MIGETZ fielder's choice that plated COLE SPEDALE. After PC scored the second run on a double play groundout and with two outs, Migetz scored on a wild pitch giving the Lions the 3-0 advantage.

Piedmont added single runs in four of the next five innings as catcher ZAC STEIN drove in a pair of runs while Devito notched his team-leading seventh RBI on a sacrifice fly to centerfield. The Lions added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh highlighted by an ANDY HOUSE single plating fellow senior TRAVIS HUNT.

JOSH MCEACHIN and DUSTY BLACK combined for three innings of scoreless relief sealing the shutout victory. The Lions' defense tied a season-high two double plays highlighted by a trio of web gems from senior shortstop JUSTIN OATES.

In the NCAA Divsion-III era the 3-0 start is the best in PIedmont College school history. The Lions stole 14 bases in the two-game series while pounding out 18 runs on 17 hits. The Lions will hit the road on Wednesday, February 13th as they travel to local rival Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA with first-pitch slated 3:00.
