After defeating #18 ranked Centre College to open the Papa Johns/Country Hearth Inn Classic in Danville, KY the Piedmont College men's basketball team fell to Hanover College on the second and final day by the score of 97-74. The Panthers finish as the only team to go 2-0 while the Lions walk away with a tournament split.
In the first half the eventual champions were lights out connecting on 22-38 (58%) shots from the floor. More impressive was HC's three-point shooting as the Panthers notcehd 6-12 (50%) in the first frame and carried a comfortable 55-26 advantage into halftime.
PC rallied in the second half to outscore its opponent 48-42, but could not overcome the deficit and dropped the 23-point decision. The Panthers finished the game with a remarkable 12-21 (57%) from behind the arc and out rebounded the Lions 39-23 including 16 offensive boards.
J.C. HEREBIA continued his impressive play notching a team best 23 points and seven rebounds.
SAMUEL COPPAGE posted 16 points while
JUSTIN RUSH chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Hanover's Mitchell Meyer posted a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs, en route to being named the tournaments Most Valuable Player. For his efforts Piedmont's Herebia was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Lions move to 3-8 overall and will return home for only the third time this season to take on Methodist University beginning at 4:00 in Cave Arena.
