The Piedmont College volleyball team fell in the Great South Athletic Conference tournament championship match this afternoon in Montgomery, AL to top-seeded Maryville College 3-0. The loss is the third of the season to the MC and gives the Lady Lions a runner-up finish in both the regular season and tournament championships.
The Scots controlled the match from the onset winning in straight sets 25-17, 25-15 and 25-17.
KATIE TUCKER,
KALIN DEMARRAIS,
TYLER BALDONADO and
MEGHANN CLARK all posted four kills apiece while Baldonado added a team best 17 assists. Clark led the squad defensively with 13 digs while
JENNIFER GRANLUND also reached double figures with 12 digs.
The Scots, who went undefeated in the conference regular season, claim their seventh GSAC championship in nine years with Piedmont claiming the other two.
Last season the Lady Lions defeated Maryville 3-1 in the championship snapping a streak of six consecutive for MC.
PC finished the 2008 season with an overall record of 25-7.
