The Piedmont College men's soccer team fell in overtime this afternoon in the Great South Athletic Conference tournament championship match to top-seeded Maryville College by the score of 3-2 in LaGrange, GA. The overtime match marks the fifth of the season for the second-seede Lions who fall to 1-4 in extra time.
Maryville opened the scoring at the 17th mintue to take a 1-0 advantage. The lead would hold until just before halftime when
JORGE PRADILLA, the GSAC's Player of the Year, found the equalizer off a pass from
JON REINERT.
In the second frame the Scots retook the lead at the 60th minute 2-1. With under two minutes remaining in regulation the Lions responded with Pradilla's second goal of the match on a penalty kick, sending the match into overtime.
Just five minutes into the extra frame the Scots found the golden goal to seal the championship.
Piedmont finished the 2008 season with an overall record of 12-7.
