The Piedmont College men's basketball team saw its early season road woes continue this afternoon with an 80-64 loss at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC. The host Monarchs scored the game's first basket and led the visiting Lions for the entire game.
The game marks the third consecutive road game against a USA-South Athletic Conference team to open the 2008-09 season for the youthful Lions. Piedmont (0-3) will now open its home schedule against region foe Greensboro College on Wednesday, December 3 at 7:00 in PC's Johnny Mize Athletic Center.
On the afternoon, the Lions were able to attempt 18 more shots than the Monarchs, but were limited with a dismal 36% shooting percentage. MU made 21-26 free throws compared to the Lions' 7-12 afternoon from the charity stripe.
After holding a 10-point advantage at half (38-28) the Monarchs stretched their lead to a game-high 19 with just over 15:00 remaining. From there Piedmont would rally to cut the lead to 12 with less than five minutes to go, but MU would ice the game from the free throw line from that point.
J.C. HEREBIA led the Lions with 16 points on 8-14 shooting from the floor and added a game-best eight rebounds in the process. Freshman
JOSH HAYMORE came off the bench to score 13 points including a pair of three-point baskets. Sam Copppage and
JUSTIN RUSH each added eight points apiece.
