On the opening day of the Emory & Henry College Tip-Off Classic this afternoon the Piedmont College women's basketball team fell to south region foe Greensboro College by the score of 71-58 in Emory, VA. The loss marks the second consecutive for the Lady Lions and moves the squad to 1-2 on the young season.
GC, who was voted the USA-South's preseason favorite, was able to capitalize on Piedmont miscues as the Pride notched 30 points off turnovers. With both teams shooting below 36% from the floor and 27% from behind the tri-fecta Greensboro held the advantage 15-7 in free throws.
The evenly played game featured a pair of lead changes and ties and saw the Lady Lions enter the half trailing 31-28. The Pride pulled away in the second frame and ended the contest with the largest lead of the night at 13 points.
LAURA SIMMONS posted a double double of 15 points and 11 rebounds, both team highs. BETH ADCOCK added seven points and 10 boards while KAYLA DUNCAN also reached double figures with 10 points.
The Lady Lions will take on Methodist University tomorrow, November 22nd in the final day of the tournament beginning at 1:00.
