After winning a pair of matches yesterday the Piedmont College volleyball team continued its impressive play at the Rhodes College Fall Classic in Memphis, TN with two victories to finish the tournament undefeated. In the first match the Lady Lions upended host Rhodes 3-2 and followed with a 3-1 victory over Hendrix College.
PC and fellow Great South Atheltic Conference member Maryville College both went 4-0 to share the tournament title. The victories move PC to 24-6 overall and marks the final matches of the regular season schedule. The Lady Lions will return to the court again on Friday, November 7th as they travel to Montgomery, AL for the GSAC Tournament hosted by Huntingdon College.
In the first match Piedmont took the first two sets 25-22 and 28-26 before the home team answered with 25-22 and 25-20 victories to even the match. The Lady Lions would not be denied in the fifth frame and took the game winning set 15-10.
KATIE TUCKER posted a season high 18 kills while
HEATHER STAFFORD chipped in with nine. Three players posted double figures in digs led by
JENNIFER GRANLUND who notched 20.
In the second and final match against Hendrix the women took the first frame 25-19 but fell in the second 25-21. PC rallied to take the final two sets 25-16 and 25-10 to finish the weekend undefeated. Three Lady Lions reached double figures in kills led by
MEGHANN CLARK who posted her season best of 16.
ERIN KRAUSE added a team best six service aces while
TYLER BALDONADO added 45 assists.
