In the first round of the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament the third-seeded Piedmont College women's soccer team defeated sixth-seeded Wesleyan College this afternoon at Walker Field by the score of 11-0. The Lady Lions used goals from seven different players en route to the dominating performance.
PC, who now stands at 13-5 overall, advances to the semifinals where they will face the winner of second-seeded Spelman College and seventh-seeded Huntingdon College next Friday, November 7th at LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA with game time to be determined.
KATIE PORTER posted the eventual game winning goal, her tenth of the season, just four minutes in with a header off a pass from
JUSTINE CLAY. Junior
TERESA MAYE notched the next three goals for her first career hat trick. Clay,
MIRANDA SEABOLT,
MELISSA HOFFMAN and
NICOLE HOOD added single goals before intermission.
In the second frame the Lady Lions tacked on three insurance goals as Porter,
CASEY LOVELADY and Maye added goals respectively. Between the posts
KAITLYN INDUNI and
BRITTANY WAY combined for the shutout victory.
For the match Piedmont controlled the time of possesion and outshot the visitors 33-1. In the final three home matches at Walker Field the Lady Lions have outscored the opposition 25-1 and have taken 10 of the last 11 matches.
