In the first overtime match of the season the Piedmont College women's soccer team defeated Great South Athletic Conference host Spelman College in Atlanta, GA this afternoon by the score of 4-3. The Lady Lions improve their current winning streak to six matches and move to 6-2 on the road.

TERESA MAYE opened the scoring for PC just three minutes into regulation off a pass from CAITLIN HURD. The homestanding Jaguars answered at the 20th minute knotting the score at one goal apiece. Sophomore KATIE PORTER then hit an unassisted long range shot over the keeper at the 36th minute to take the lead.

Porter struck again just five minutes later taking an assist from MELISSA HOFFMAN and giving the Lady Lions a 3-1 advantage at intermission. After 27 minutes of scoreless soccer in the second half Spelman connected on a pair of goals at the 72nd and 86th minutes sending the match into overtime.

A mere four minutes into the extra frame Porter found the hat trick golden goal on a penalty kick giving PC the dramatic victory. The Lady Lions held the slim edge in shots on goal at 11-10 and created five corner kicks.

Piedmont, who now stands at 9-4 overall and 7-2 in the Great South, will look to extend their winning streak on Saturday, October 18th as they travel to conference powerhouse Maryville College in Maryville, TN beginning at 4:00.
