After splitting the previous two matches with Oglethorpe University the Piedmont College volleyball team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over the visiting local rivals this evening in Cave Arena. The Lady Lions move to a perfect 7-0 at home and have not dropped a single set in those matches.
The Lady Lions stormed out to a 5-0 advantage and cruised to the 30-12 first set decision. Leading 24-20 the Stormy Petrels rallied back in the second set before PC responded and took the decision 28-26. In the third and final set the netters won multiple long rallies en route to the match ending 30-22 score.
Piedmont was impressive on defense as NIKKI COLE led the way with 11 digs, closely followed by KALIN DEMARRAIS and JENNIFER GRANLUND who posted nine digs apiece. Middle hitter HEATHER STAFFORD was dominant at the net posting six total blocks, four of which were solo.
Senior MEGHANN CLARK gave the offense a boost with a game high nine kills while Cole and Stafford added six kills respectively. Setter TYLER BALDONADO, the recently named GSAC Player of the Week, led all players with 27 assists, marking the 14th time she had eclipsed the 25 mark this season.
The victory moves the Lady Lions to 15-4 overall. The netters will return to the hardwood again on Saturday, October 4th as they take on Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA starting at 12:00. The women will also take on NCAA Division-III south region member Emory & Henry College at approximately 2:00.
