For the second time this season and ninth consecutive time in the last five years the Piedmont College men's basketball team defeated visiting local rival Toccoa Falls College by the score of 98-78 in PC's Johnny Mize Athletic Center. The Lions received point contributions from nine different players and placed five in double figures shooting an impressive 39-74 (53%) from the floor.
The Lions, who trailed only once in the game, found themselves knotted 17-17 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. PC slowly built its lead over the next five minutes before going on an 8-0 run to take a 41-31 lead with only three minutes to go in the first frame. The Lions ended the half with an 11-6 advantage for a 52-37 intermission score.
In the first ten minutes of the second half the Eagles rallied to get the score within six at 70-64. The Lions quickly answered and stretched their lead back to a 25-point cushion. When the final buzzer sounded Piedmont held the 20-point advantage, the third-highest margin of victory this year.
Five Lions reached double figures led by senior JAKE BALDWIN who notched a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds, both game highs. WESLEY PARKER and MICHAEL RUBIO chipped in 16 and 14 points respectively while BRANDEN MAYWEATHER and JAKE GREEN combined added 11 and 10 points respectively.
PC moves to 11-8 overall and will be back in action again on Saturday, February 2nd as they host conference rival Maryville College as the second game of the GSAC doubleheader beginning at 4:00.
