In the first game played since the holiday break the Piedmont College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to a season-high six games tonight in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center by the score of 50-40 over the visiting Monarchs of Methodist Univeristy. The Lady Lions were able to avenge the loss at the hands of MU on November 24th and even up the season series.
Despite the lowest scoring output of the season the PC defense stepped up and limited its opponents to a mere 33% from the field. With time winding down in the first half the Lady Lions clung to a 17-12 advantage with less than two seconds remaining before BETH ADCOCK was fouled and buried three consecutive free throws to give PC the eight-point advantage at intermission.
In the second half the offense awoke for Piedmont shooting an even 50% from the field. The Lady Lions never trailed in the second frame and finished the game with the convincing 10-point advantage. PC was dominant on the glass as well outrebounding the opposition 38-27 despite losing the turnonver margin 20-16.
Adcock led all scorers with 16 points and a game high 35 minutes played. The guard also contributed four rebounds, a pair of assists and a block. YETTA BAILEY chipped in with six points and seven rebounds off the bench.
The Lady Lions now stand at 10-2 overall. The women will return to the hardwood again on Monday, January 7th as they host Emory University with tip-off scheduled for 6:00.
