Piedmont Remains Undefeated In GSAC With 111-17 Rout Of Wesleyan

Lady Lions Record Largest Margin Of Victory In Five Years And Earn Spot In NCAA Records Book

The Piedmont College women's basketball team remained undefeated in the Great South and posted the second highest margin of victory in the last five years with a 111-17 romp over visiting Wesleyan College tonight in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center.

In the largest margin of victory in the past five seaons, the Piedmont College women's basketball team remained undefeated in the Great South Athletic Conference with a romp over visiting Wesleyan College tonight by the score of 111-17. Piedmont held a commanding 66-6 lead at halftime and earned a spot as a tie for fourth all-time in the NCAA Division-III record book for points in a single half. 

Piedmont shot 47-72 (65%) from the floor including 14-21 (66%) from behind the three-point line, both season highs. Wesleyan was limited to a mere 7-54 (13%) from the floor and recorded 19 turnovers. The Pioneers' Davida Dwyer was the team's leading scorer with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Lions notched baskets from 12 different players including four players with double figures. DANIELLE DUTCHER recorded a double-double of 22 points and 15 rebounds while BRANDI SYFAN also notched a career-high 22 points including a perfect 6-6 from behind the tri-fecta. 

HOLLY FARMER posted 14 points and eight rebounds while SHEENA TRIMIAR chipped in with 14 points and five steals in only 13 minutes of action giving her 998 career points. EMILY WOODWARD also posted career highs with nine points and seven rebounds.

The 94-point victory is the second largest in Piedmont College history in the NCAA Division-III era.  For the game there were only nine total personal fouls and eight free-throw attempts.

The Lady Lions now stand at 15-3 overall and 5-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will host conference rival Maryville College on Saturday, February 2nd beginning at 2:00.
