After rattling off three consecutive wins the Piedmont College men's basketball team fell today at the hands of non-conference host Methodist University by the score of 100-83 in Fayetteville, NC. The loss drops the Lions to 8-7 overall and 0-2 on the season series with the Monarchs.
After Methodist opened the game on a 6-0 run, PC moved to within in one at 12-11. The Monarchs pulled ahead again building a nine-point lead with 12 minutes left in the half. The Lions hit their next three 3-pointers to tie the game at 29 and took the lead on a layup at the eight minute mark.
Piedmont would trail by as many as nine in the final minutes of the half, but a late 3-pointer sent the game into intermission with MU clinging to a 44-41 lead.
PC led on two different occasions within the first four minutes of the second half, but the Monarchs regained their offense from a balanced attack and after leading by just two points with 13 minutes remaining, Methodist went on a 11-2 run over the next two and a half minutes. The Lions trailed by as many as 19 down the stretch and dropped the 17-point decision.
Leading the offensive charge for Piedmont was
JAKE BALDWIN who notched a double-double of 34 points and 10 rebounds.
MICHAEL RUBIO and
SAMUEL COPPAGE also reached double figures with 15 and 14 points apiece while
WESLEY PARKER chipped in with six points and a team high five assists.
PC will return to the court again on Thursday, January 17th as they travel to Atlanta Christian College in East Point, GA with tip off set for 7:00.
