PC's Jill Sparger Voted Tournament's Most Valuable Player

Piedmont College won all four matches this weekend en route to winning the Greensboro College Alumni Invitational.
With a pair of three-game victories this afternoon the Piedmont College volleyball team was crowned champions of the Greensboro College Alumni Tournament. The Lady Lions defeated Guilford College 30-20, 30-24 and 30-25, then proceeded to avenge their only loss of the season by defeating Lynchburg College 30-19, 30-25 and 30-22 en route to the first place finish.

PC controlled the entire match against Guilford led by KATIE TUCKER who notched a team high 12 kills. JILL SPARGER made her prescence felt as the libero recording a season high 20 digs and five service aces. TYLER BALDONADO continued her strong play with 31 assists while JENNIFER GRANLUND chipped in the offensive effort with five service aces.

After dropping the first meeting with Lynchburg less than a week ago, Piedmont used a complete team effort to secure the victory. KALIN DEMARRAIS led the squad with eight kills while Baldonado tallied 25 assists and three service aces. Sparger was again dominant on the back line with a team high 15 digs.

For her efforts Sparger was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The senior averaged 15.5 assists from the libero position. Baldonado was also named to the All-Tournament Team as the setter averaged 32 assists.

The victories move PC to 7-1 overall. The Lady Lions will take the court again in their home-opener on Tuesday, September 11th as they host local NAIA foe Brenau University at Cave Arena with first serve scheduled for 7:00.
