Behind a complete team effort the Piedmont College volleyball team won a pair of matches on the first day of the Greensboro College Alumni Tournament over USA South Athletic Conference members Meredith College and Greensboro College. The Lions were flawless against Meredith winning 30-21, 30-15 and 30-17 and then defeated the tournament host in four games by the scores of 30-28, 21-30, 30-27 and 30-21.
PC dominated the first match of the tournament in every facet of the game. Offensively
KALIN DEMARRAIS and
SARAH LANE paced the squad with a combined 17 kills.
TYLER BALDONADO recorded 33 assists while
JILL SPARGER and
JENNIFER GRANLUND notched a pair of service aces apiece.
KATIE TUCKER continued her stellar defensive play with a team-high four blocks.
Against the Pride of Greensboro, DeMarrais again led the offense with 15 kills followed by
ASHLEY CHIMA who also reached double-figures with 10 kills. On the defensive side, libero
JILL SPARGER tallied 14 digs while
NIKKI COLE led the team with six blocks. Baldonado continued her strong play with 41 assists and a season-high six service aces.
The victories move the Lions to 5-1 overall. The team will be back in action for the final day of competition tomorrow, September 8th as they match up against Old Dominion Athletic Conference members Guilford College and Lynchburg College beginning at 10:00.
