Senior Drew Griffin continued his impressive season with the hat trick against NCAA South Region host Ferrum College this afternoon connecting on three goals to lead PC to a 3-1 victory. With both teams connecting on double digit shots on goal, the Lions were able to cash in and win the two-goal decision.
Griffin notched the first goal of the match at the ninth minute with a penalty kick. With just a minute remaining in the first half defender Chris Leone sent a free kick in that Griffin was able to head past the FC keeper for the eventual game-winner.
The Panthers got within one goal at the 57th minute on a penalty kick but could not find the equalizer goal. The Lions tacked on an insurance goal as Leone again sent a free kick in that Griffin headed into the back of the net. Goalkeeper Ben Pyle was impressive notching 10 saves between the posts.
The victory moves Piedmont to 5-4 overall. The Lions will return to action again on Saturday, September 29th as they travel to Great South Athletic Conference foe Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL starting at 3:00 CST.
