In a rematch of the 2006 semifinals of the Great South Athletic Conference tournament, the Piedmont College volleyball team won in dramatic fashion this afternoon in the squad's first five-game match of the year over visiting Huntingdon College by the score of 3-2. With the victory the team extends its winning streak to seven consecutive matches and remains undefeated in GSAC competition.
PC took control at the start of the match winning the first two games 30-24 and 30-21 but Huntingdon fought back winning the next two games 30-24 and 30-24 forcing a fifth and deciding game. Piedmont fell behind 3-1 to start but rattled off five consecutive points and won the deciding game 15-10.
The victory moves Piedmont to 10-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will return to the court again on Friday, September 21st as they compete in the Emory University Invitational where they will face host Emory beginning at 4:30.
KATIE TUCKER led the Lady Lions offense with a team-high 14 kills.
NIKKI COLE and
SARAH LANE also eclipsed double-digit kills with 13 and 11 respectively.
TYLER BALDONADO continued her impressive play from the setter position with a game-high 45 assists. Libero
JILL SPARGER was impressive on the defensive end with 21 digs while Tucker provided three solo blocks.
