After taking a 1-0 lead into the second half, the Piedmont College men's soccer team allowed a pair of goals to Great South Athletic Conference host Maryville College this afternoon and droped a one-goal defeat. In a hard-fought match that the Lions led for over 53 minutes, the Scots were able to put two goals together in the span of five minutes and hold on to win the conference decision.
Drew Griffin recorded PC's only goal at the 18th minute on a penalty-kick. The goal proved to be the only bright spot for the Lions as Maryville was able to knot the game at 1-1 at the 61st minute and connect on the eventual game-winner at the 66th minute.
Jeron Bargen and Jeremy Stille provided the only other scoring opportunities for PC with a shot on goal apiece. There were a total of seven yellow cards issued to both teams and the Lions were forced to play two men down due to ejections.
Piedmont now stands at 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lions will return to the field again on Tuesday, September 18th as they host south region opponent Emory University at Walker Field with kick off scheduled for 7:00.
