Coming off a tournament championship in Greensboro, NC, the Piedmont College volleyball team extended its winning streak to five consecutive matches in the home-opener tonight against NAIA opponent Brenau University by the score of 3-0. In front of a frenzied home crowd the Lions controlled every facet of the match from the start and cruised to the shut out victory.
KALIN DEMARRAIS and
KATIE TUCKER paced the PC offense reaching double figures in kills with 11 and 10 respectively.
TYLER BALDONADO and
JENNIFER GRANLUND were impressive combining for 10 service aces while Tucker chipped in defensively with a team-high three solo blocks.
Baldonado posted her sixth straight match with 30+ assists with a game-high 31. Sparger, coming off being named the Greensboro College Alumni Tournament Most Valuable Player, continued her domination at the libero position with a team-high 13 digs.
Tonight's victory marks the sixth time in nine matches that the team has shutout its opponent. The win moves Piedmont to 8-1 overall. Piedmont will open Great South Athletic Conference play this Saturday, September 15th and Sunday, September 16th with single matches against LaGrange College and Huntingdon College, both slated to start at 1:00 in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center.
