After shooting a mere 33% from the field in the first half, the Piedmont College women's basketball team almost doubled that percentage in the second half en route to a 71-55 victory over visiting Great South Athletic Conference opponent LaGrange College this afternoon in Cave Arena. The win is the Lady Lions' fourth straight and sixth in their last seven games.
Both teams started out very slowly with the first basket of the game coming at the 17:00 mark. With a pair of lead changes and ties in the first half the Lady Lions came out red hot in the second half hitting six of their first nine shots from the field and increasing their lead to 14 points. LaGrange was able to get within five points but PC ended the game on a 14-3 run to seal the victory.
Nikki Sosebee notched a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs. Yetta Bailey and Lisa Jennings added 15 points apiece while Beth Adcock chipped in with 12 points. Kayla Duncan was a force on the defensive end with nine rebounds and a game-high three blocked shots.
The victory moves Piedmont to 13-6 overall and 7-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will return to the hardwood again on Monday, February 5th when they travel Atlanta, GA to take on league foe Spelman College at 6:00.
