Women's Basketball Team Extends Winning Streak To Three

PC Dominates First Half, Moves To 7-2 Overall

The PC women's basketball team now stands at 7-2 overall and match a season high three-game winning streak with the 65-56 victory over Sewanee-University of the South.

Matching the longest winning streak of the season the Piedmont College women's basketball team defeated visiting Sewanee-University of the South in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center by the score of 65-56. The Lady Lions broke out to a 43-26 halftime advantage and used the 17-point advantage to cruise to its seventh victory of the season.

Sewanee jumped out to a 6-5 lead, but PC took the lead four minutes later and held it for the final 36 minutes of the game. With the Lady Lions holding a 10-9 advantage Piedmont went on a 15-6 run over the next eight minutes and ended the half on a 17-9 run to take a commanding 43-26 lead into intermission.

The Tigers rallied in the second half and cut the lead to as few as seven with just over three minutes remaining. Despite being held scoreless for over two minutes down the stretch the Lady Lions were able to hang on to the nine-point victory.

NIKKI SOSEBEE was dominant in the post with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds, both game highs. LISA JENNINGS also reached double figures with 14 points including an impressive 4-5 from behind the tri-fecta.

Newcomer LAURA SIMMONS added eight points in the paint while SHEENA TRIMIAR and SARAH LANE notched six points apiece. Jennings and Trimiar also contributed on the defensive end combining for seven steals.

The Lady Lions limited the Tigers to a mere 20-58 (35%) from the field while connecting on 19-37 (51%). Despite losing the turnove battle to Sewanee 31-23 PC was impressive in the first half connecting on 15-24 (63%) shots from the field.

Sewanee placed one player in double figures while using baskets from nine different  Tigers. Despite being outrebounded 33-32 SU grabbed 19 offensive boards compared to the Lady Lions' nine.

The victory moves Piedmont to 7-2 overall. The women will return to action against Millsaps College in Jackson, MS on Friday, December 7th beginning at 6:00 CST. The Lady Lions will turn around and play Mississippi College on Saturday, December 8th beginning at 1:00 CST.
