Defense Leads Women's Hoops Team To Victory Over Brenau University 60-44

Lady Lions Hold Tigers To Only 13 Second Half Points En Route To Victory

Sheena Trimiar led three teammates in double figures with 13 points in the victory over Brenau University.
With points hard to come by on both sides the Piedmont College women's basketball team was able to limit visiting Brenau University to a mere 13 second half points and earn the 60-44 victory this afternoon in non-conference action at PC's Johnny Mize Athletic Center. Behind a staunch defense that limited the Tigers to a slim 5-24 (21%) from the field in the second half the Lady Lions were able to widen the lead and finish with the 16-point victory.

After PC tied the game in the first half at 5-5 Brenau went on a 6-0 run over the next three minutes to take their largest lead of the first half. The Lady Lions got within one point at the 4:00 minute mark but the Tigers finished with a three-pointer with less than a minute remaining to enter the half leading 31-28.

After BU scored the first basket of the second half PC went on a 6-0 run to take the lead for good at the 17:00 mark. With Piedmont leading by one point at the 10:00 mark the Lady Lions went on a 10-0 run and took a commanding 51-40 lead.

After a seven minute stretch that featured only six points from both sides PC finished the final two minutes on a  7-2 run to secure the 16-point victory.

Senior SHEENA TRIMIAR continued her impressive play leading three Lady Lions in double figures with 13 points and a team-high three steals. NIKKI SOSEBEE added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds while newcomer LAURA SIMMONS added a career-high 10 points in her first start of the season.

The victory moves Piedmont to 6-2 overall.
