With fast-paced transition action up and down the floor for both teams the Piedmont College women's basketball team saw its 2007-2008 home opener spoiled by local rival Oglethorpe University tonight in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center by the score of 86-67. The Stormy Petrels used a balanced attack with five players reaching double figures to power past the Lady Lions for a second consecutive year.
PC jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first minute of regulation with a pair of steals but saw the lead lost for good a mere four minutes later. With the score 8-6 in Piedmont's favor OU went on an 18-3 run over the next 10 minutes and entered the half with a comfortable 42-25 lead.
In the second half the Stormy Petrels opened with a 22-12 run in the first six minutes. The Lady Lions were able to claw back to within 15 points but could not overcome the deficit and dropped the 19-point decision.
