Buzzer-Beating Basket Leads Men's Basketball Team Past Birmingham Southern 93-91

Jake Baldwin Notches Game-Winning Basket With Less Than A Second Remaining

Jake Baldwin hit the game-winning basket with less than a second remaining to give the men's basketball team a 93-91 victory over Birmingham Southern College.

The Piedmont College men's basketball team moved to 3-1 this afternoon with a dramatic 93-91 victory over tournament host Birmingham Southern College in the BSC Black-Tie Classic. Despite the Panthers' rally senior JAKE BALDWIN tipped in his own missed shot with three-tenths of a second left on the clock to seal the Lions' third win of the season.

In a back and forth first half that featured six lead changes the Lions found themselves down 39-38 with four minutes remaining before going on a 17-4 run to conclude the first session. The Lions extended their lead in the second half to as many as 13 points before leading 91-85 with one minute remaining in regulation.

After BSC hit back to back three-pointers the Lions found themselves knotted at 91-91. Piedmont used a timeout with just over eight seconds remaining and JAKE BALDWIN missed a short jumper but was able to gather his own rebound and get the put-back sealing the two-point dramatic victory.

For the game Baldwin led all scorers with an impressive 42 points and a team-high seven rebounds. SAMUEL COPPAGE added 22 points including 10-11 from the charity stripe. MICHAEL RUBIO and WESLEY PARKER added 14 and 11 points respectively while JAKE GREEN added a game-high four assists.

For his efforts Baldwin was named to the Black-Tie Classic All-Tournament Team. The forward averaged 30 points and six rebounds per game for the tournament improving his season average to 34 points and nine rebounds per game.

The victory moves Piedmont to 3-1 overall and gives them a tournament split at the BSC Black-Tie Classic. The Lions will return to the hardwood again on Friday, November 30th as they take on Catholic University in the Roger Taylor Invitational hosted by North Carolina Wesleyan College beginning at 6:00.
