Volleyball Team Advances To GSAC Championship With 3-1 Victory Over Huntingdon

Piedmont Set To Face Maryville College In Title Final

Tyler Baldonado recorded a match-high 57 assists to help lead the team into tomorrow's GSAC Championship.

For the third time this season the Piedmont College volleyball team defeated Great South Athletic Conference member Huntingdon College, this time in the 2007 GSAC tournament semifinals to advance to tomorrow's championship match. Piedmont won the match 30-20, 27-30, 30-22, and 30-19 to set up a rematch of last season's championship match with top-seeded Maryville College.

The PC offense was impressive tonight as three players recorded double-figure kills led by KATIE TUCKER with a team-high 17. ASHLEY CHIMA and SARAH LANE chipped in with 16 and 14 respectively while setter TYLER BALDONADO recorded a game-high 57 assists.

Defensively PC was paced by JILL SPARGER who notched a team-high 22 digs. KALIN DEMARRAIS and JENNIFER GRANLUND chipped in with 15 and 10 digs apiece while Baldonado led the squad with three service aces.

The victory moves Piedmont to 23-8 overall as the team will square off against top-seeded Maryville College in the Great South Athletic Conference championship match in LaGrange, GA beginning at 1:00.  The winner of the GSAC tournament will receive an automatic berth into the 2007 NCAA Division-III National Tournament.
