In decisive fashion the Piedmont College volleyball team extended its current winning streak to four matches with a pair of victories over Great South Athletic Conference host LaGrange College and south region foe Methodist University 3-0 respectively. In the first match PC overcame the Panthers 30-23, 30-27, and 30-15 and followed that with a 30-27, 30-24, and 30-14 victory over the MU.
Piedmont dominated both facets of the game in the first victory over LC notching a season-high 18 total blocks. In addition
JILL SPARGER led three teammates in double-figures for digs with 17 while
CAITLIN MITCHELL and
JENNIFER GRANLUND chipped in with 12 and 11 respectively. Offensively the Lions were paced by
NIKKI COLE who notched a team-high 11 kills while
TYLER BALDONADO continued her impressive play at the setter position with 32 assists.
Against the Monarchs
SARAH LANE led the offense with a team-high 10 kills. Cole chipped in with nine kills while Baldonado posted a game-high 34 assists. Sparger tallied a squad-high 15 digs while Granlund added six service aces. On the defensive end Lane and Cole combined for three solo blocks apiece.
The victories move Piedmont to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. Piedmont will return to the court again tomorrow, October 7th as they travel to conference host Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL with first serve scheduled for 1:00 CST.
