Volleyball Team Drops GSAC Match At Maryville College 3-1

Netters Fall For Only The Second Time In Conference Action

For only the second time this season the Piedmont College volleyball team dropped a Great South Athletic Conference match, tonight at the hands of host Maryville College by the score of 3-1. PC could not overcome the defending conference champs and fell 30-32, 30-27, 20-30, and 22-30.

After dropping a two-point decision in game one, PC equalized the match with a 30-27 victory.  The host Lady Scots rebounded to secure the victory in front of a packed gym by sweeping the final two games.

The loss drops PC to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The team will look to rebound on Thursday, October 11th as they travel to local rival Toccoa Falls College beginning at 7:00.

In the closely contested match Piedmont was able to place two players in double-figure kills as NIKKI COLE led the way with 12 kills while KALIN DEMARRAIS continued her impressive freshman campaign with 10 kills. SARAH LANE and KATIE TUCKER chipped in with nine and eight kills respectively while TYLER BALDONADO added 43 assists.

Defensively the Lady Lions were paced by libero JILL SPARGER who notched a team high 15 digs while JENNIFER GRANLUND added 13 digs. Lane also added to the defensive cause with a team high seven total blocks.
