The Piedmont College women's basketball team posted its first Great South Athletic Conference road victory of the season this afternoon with a 71-62 league win at LaGrange College. The win ups the Lady Lions' overall record to 9-5 and improves their GSAC mark to 5-1.
Beth Adcock scored a game-high 22 points for Piedmont while teammate Sheena Trimiar had a season-high 21 points.
The two teams combined for 58 turnovers in the contest with Piedmont forcing 18 LaGrange turnovers in the second half alone. Piedmont enjoyed a 24-9 advantage over the Panthers at the free throw line.
The first half was close until the last three minutes. The Panthers led 10-5 in the early going after Heather Power's three-pointer and held their final lead of the game at 12-11. A pair of free throws by Piedmont's Sarah Lane put the Lady Lions ahead to stay 13-12.
The Panthers were within a point on two occasions the rest of the half. Leading 26-23, the Lady Lions went on a 10-2 run to open up a 36-25 lead late in the half.
In the second half, the Panthers trailed by seven in the first minute. Piedmont began to pull away, using a 9-0 run to open up a 45-29 lead four minutes into the half. The Lady Lions had their largest lead, 68-49, after Trimiar's basket with 4:15 remaining. The Panthers scored the game's last six points for the 71-62 final.
Piedmont will return to action on Monday, January 22nd when the Lady Lions travel to Sewanee, TN to take on the University of the South with tip off set for 5:00 CST.
