The Piedmont College women's basketball team rebounded from a season-opening loss yesterday to notch their first victory of the year this afternoon against tournament host Amherst College by the score of 67-57 at the Amherst Tip-Off Classic in Amherst, MA. It was a complete team effort as nine different Lady Lions recorded points and the squad shot an impressive 87% from the charity stripe en route to victory.
Nikki Sosebee lead three Lady Lions in double-figures with a team-high 16 points. Yetta Bailey notched her career-first double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while Beth Adcock chipped in with 11 points as well.
With both teams shooting better than 40% in the first-half, Piedmont carried a slim five-point edge into intermission. In the second half the Lady Lions defense held Amherst to a mere 24% from the field and secured the game making 18-21 free throws to ice the 10-point victory.
For their efforts Nikki Sosebee and Yetta Bailey were named to the Amherst College Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament Team. Sosebee averaged over 18 points and eight rebounds while Bailey tallied a tournament average of 11 points and over eight rebounds.
The women improve to an even 1-1 on the season. The women will return home and take on mory Unviersity on Tuesday, November 21st in the Johnny Mize Athletic Center with tip-off slated for 6:00.
