Piedmont Falls To Maryville 83-63

Behind a blistering offense and sound defense, Great South Athletic Conference visitors Maryville College overcame Piedmont College this afternoon for an 83-63 victory in PC's Johnny Mize Athletic Center. The Lady Lions were held to mere 36% from the field as their opponents shot 46% en route to victory.

Maryville controlled the first half by shooting an impressive 17-34 (50%) from the field and went into intermission with a 48-24 lead. Piedmont rallied in the second half but could not overcome the 20-point halftime deficit.

Beth Adcock led the way for the Lady Lions with a game-high 17 points. Nikki Sosebee added 14 points and four steals and Joanna Zipperer added nine points by shooting 3-7 from behind the three-point line.

The loss drops Piedmont to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions will return to the court on Wednesday, January 18th as they travel to GSAC opponent Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL with tip-off scheduled for 5:00 CST.
