SEASON RECAP: 2023 Men's Cross Country

• The Piedmont University men's cross country team concluded a historic year for the program as they captured their first CCS title and the first conference title on the men's side in the Jimison era.
• Piedmont hosted the CCS Championships for the first time in the new conference.
• Junior Layton Bradford finished second at the CCS Championship meet while senior Walker Capelle finished third. Tucker Cox, Jadon Gonzales and Gary Halverson all finished in the Top 10 for the Lions.
• Head Coach Jamie Jimison was named the 2023 CCS Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year for his work with the program.
• Gary Halverson set the new Piedmont record in the 6k during the 2023 season while Layton Bradford claimed the new 8k record.
• The Lions saw their best ever finish at the NCAA South Region Championships as the team finished seventh overall out of 24 squads.

• Junior Layton Bradford finished second at the CCS Championship behind the Runner of the Year from Berea with a time of 27:35.9.
• Senior Walker Capelle sprinted to the finish line in a last second burst of speed to finish third in 27:50.9.
• Teammates Tucker Cox, Jadon Gonzales and Gary Halverson all placed Top 10, securing big points for the Lions on their way to a championship.
• For his team's success, Head Coach Jamie Jamison was named 2023 CCS Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year for his hard work and dedication to the advancement of the Piedmont program.

• Coming off the CCS Championship win, the top seven runners from the program traveled back to Mount Berry for the NCAA South Region Championships
• The squad posted a program best seventh out of 24 schools finish at the meet.
• Gary Halverson had a strong bounce-back meet to lead the Lions and earn a Top 30 finish at the meet.
• Also making improvements, Layton Bradford turned in a time that was nearly 14 seconds faster than when he ran the course earlier in the season.
• Tucker Cox narrowly missed a career PR while rounding out the Top 50 finishers for the Lions.

Piedmont saw five different runners awarded all-conference honors for the 2023 season.

• Head coach Jamie Jimison was awarded the CCS 2023 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
• Jimison, in his fifth year at Piedmont, has continued to set the bar higher and higher as he has been awarded coach of the year for at least one of the programs for the third year in a row.
