The Piedmont College baseball team had its 2008 season come to an end this afternoon with a 13-6 loss to second-seeded Johns Hopkins University at the NCAA Division-III South Regional at Dan Daniel Park in Danville, VA. The loss ends the Lions' banner season with a 34-14 overall record.
Piedmont opened the scoring posting two runs on three hits in the first inning. The Lions held the lead through two and a half innings. In the bottom of the third, Johns Hopkins (36-6) had a huge six-run inning, started with a Brian Youchak single and covering seven total hits.
The Lions closed the gap with three runs in the top of the fourth inning but the Blue Jays kept pace with three of their own in the bottom of the fourth frame. Johns Hopkins scored a single run in each of the following three innings to secure the win.
ANDY HOUSE capped his four year career in the green and gold with a perfect 4-4 afternoon from the plate that included a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Teammates

JOHN DUKE each pitched in with multiple hit games.
For his efforts freshman
JOHN DUKE was name to the regional's All-Tournament team after batting 5-11 over the three games with three runs scored from the designated hitter's position.
The NCAA postseason appearance was the first-ever for the PC baseball program. Fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins went on to eventually win the regional on Saturday and advance to the 2008 NCAA Division-III College World Series in Appleton, WI.
