SEASON PREVIEW: Baseball

The Piedmont baseball team is set to open its 2026 season with a weekend full of baseball starting at home against Rhodes College.

  • The Lions are coming off a 27-15 season with a 12-6 record in conference action. 
  • Piedmont picked up one win in the CCS tournament before falling in back-to-back losses to Belhaven and Maryville. 
  • The Lions lineup sported impact bats and will have returning production in Carter Few and CCS Rookie of the Year Ben Connelly.
  • The pitching rotation for the Lions saw large departures in the rotation and look to their youth to build in the area for the season.
  • Piedmont was selected to finish fourth in the Preseason CCS Coach's poll.

Justin Scali enters his tenth season as Head Baseball Coach after having spent the previous 12 seasons on staff as an Assistant Baseball Coach with the Lions. In 2025, he helped Ben Connelly to a CCS Rookie of the Year award along with guiding Zeke Swartz to a CCS Pitcher of the Year award.

Trey Pearce was promoted to associate head baseball coach in the fall of 2024 following his first season with the Lions. He joined Piedmont in the fall of 2023 after spending a year as a volunteer assistant at LaGrange College in 2022 and serving as an assistant coach at LaGrange High School in 2023. This will be his third season on staff with the Lions.
