2023-24 Men's Golf Senior Spotlight

Runner Up National Championship

These two seniors have helped lead the Piedmont men’s golf team to unprecedented heights over the last four seasons. They helped the Lions to a 2021 USA South Tournament Championship and three consecutive NCAA Division III Championship appearances, the first time in program history they had reached the tournament. In 2023, these two helped Piedmont deliver a runner-up finish at the event, the highest ever for a Piedmont program in the NCAA era.

ERIC PENLAND | MARIETTA, GA

Penland has competed in 35 tournaments and 102 total rounds for Piedmont. He has delivered 10 par-or-better rounds. In his first semester of competition, he helped the Lions deliver a second-place finish at the UNG Invitational, after which the Lions vaulted to the top of the Division III national rankings. Eric helped the Lions to a runner-up finish at the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship. Individually, he fired a career-best round of 70 in the 2022 Golfweek Fall Invitational. Off the course, he is a three-time Academic All-Conference member and was named to the CSC Academic All-District Team in 2023.

JOSH HEBRINK | ELK RIVER, MINN

Hebrink has played in 37 events and 102 total rounds for the Lions. He has 32 rounds at par or better. In 2023, he delivered an unprecedented run at the NCAA Championship, taking the individual national championship in dramatic fashion. Josh’s final round 6-under 66 to propel him to victory was a Piedmont record for individual low round. In addition, Hebrink is a two-time PING/GCAA All-American, including earning first team honors last season. He is a three-time PING/GCAA All-South Region honoree and a three-time All-Conference honoree as well. Hebrink won four individual titles and was a five-time conference athlete of the week. He plans to graduate in May with a degree in psychology.
