Piedmont Opens Outdoor Season at Victor Ice Breaker Duals

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Piedmont University track and field program opened their 2024 outdoor season Saturday at the Victor Ice Breaker Duals hosted by Berry. It was an excellent opening meet for the Lions with ample top 10 finishes.

Senior Sam Seymour produced a quality meet at Mount Berry, placing sixth in the women's high jump (1.36m) while also grabbing another top 10 finish in the women's triple jump. The Savannah native's 9.76m jump placed her seventh at the meet.

In the men's 400m dash, Piedmont picked up three top 10 finishes with sophomore Silas Goolsby placing the highest in third. His mark of 49.82 was followed in fifth place by Garrett Stadler (50.72) and seventh place by Chris Donsereaux (50.91). Goolsby's time in the 400m moved him into third place all-time in Piedmont history while he also went on to claim another top five finish in the men's 200m dash with a time of 22.43. Stadler finished tenth in the men's high jump later in the meet with a best height of 1.71m.

Sophomore Bella Caccamo placed sixth in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:15.07 while Seymour finished directly behind her in seventh (1:18.16).

Freshman Johnny Taylor placed sixth in the men's triple jump (12.45m), moving himself into fourth place all-time in Piedmont history. Fellow freshman Franklin Brown Jr. earned a sixth place finish in the men's long jump (6.16m).

In the women's long jump, freshman Allison Cantrell turned in a top five finish in the event with a best jump of 4.86m.

Junior Layton Bradford continued to impress, placing third in the 10,000m with a 32:55.33. Just five spots back from Bradford was senior Walker Capelle who placed eighth with a 33:45.95.

Turning in a top five finish, sophomore Michelle Cates claimed fourth in the women's 400m dash with a time of 1:03.48.

In the men's javelin, freshman Ethan Butler-Paige earned the ninth place spot at the meet with a best throw of 41.04m. His distance in the javelin puts his fourth all-time in school history while his 37.77m toss in the men's hammer puts him third all-time.

Claiming the tenth spot at the meet, freshman Sydney Braswell posted a best height of 2.51m in the women's pole vault. Braswell's height moved her into third place in school history. Also earning a tenth place finish was senior Tucker Cox, who turned in a time of 4:15.86 in the men's 1500m.

In the longest two races of the meet, sophomores Skyler Seeber and Hannah Marlowe both placed top ten. Seeber claimed ninth in the women's 5000m with a 19:51.84 while Marlowe claimed sixth in the 10,000m with a 42:52.99. Her time moves her into fifth place all-time in Piedmont history.

Piedmont's women dominated the field events at the meet, with multiple top five and top ten finishes. Senior Nakiyah Washington lead the charge, placing fifth in the shot put (11.09m), third in the discus (34.51m) and seventh in the javelin (30.50m).
