Season Recap: Baseball

• The Lions posted a 21-16 record over the 2021 season with an 8-6 mark in conference play. 
• Piedmont had a 13-6 record on the road over the course of the season and picked up six wins at Loudermilk Field. 
• The Lions had a five game win streak over the mid-portion of the schedule with a pair of wins over Edgewood, Maryville and a single victory against Huntingdon College.
• Piedmont had a total of five players earn USA South All-Conference honors and two players earned All-American honors (Sam Carpenter, Carter Ballstadt).

• Piedmont opened the season with a six-run first inning as the bats were hot from the start. 
• Sam Carpenter began the season picking up where he left off with a dominant performance on the mound tossing 7.0 innings allowing just two hits, no earned runs and striking out 12. 
• Piedmont had four extra base hits in the contest with Carter Ballstadt accounting for two doubles, Zach Swindell added a double and Ethan Darrow recorded a triple.

• Piedmont opened the conference slate taking 2-of-3 at Huntingdon and claimed a series win against Maryville at home to move to 4-2 in league play.
• The Lions faced Brevard in a two-game set and split those contests, with the final game tacked on at the end of the year as the deciding factor in post-season competition.
• Piedmont swept a doubleheader at Covenant in the only two contests they played this year. Offense was key as the Lions tacked on 16 runs against the Scots in two games.
• The final game of the regular season was against Brevard to decide the two seed in the West Division and the Lions managed an 8-2 win on the road.
• The Lions dropped a pair of contests in the USA South postseason to end the year.

• Piedmont had three total All-American honors in 2021 with Sam Carpenter accounting for a pair and Carter Ballstadt also earning All-American honors.
• Carpenter earned ABCA Third Team All-American honors and D3Baseball.com Fourth Team All-American honors.
• Ballstadt earned D3Baseball.com Fourth Team All-American honors as well.
• Ballstadt also became the second player in program history to earn an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove.
